You`d be hard pushed to throw a stone in the streets of LA without hitting at least one wannabe movie star or erstwhile rock legend. Virtually guaranteed is the likelihood you`ll strike any one of a myriad of top eateries just waiting to welcome you in.
There`s no question that whatever you do in Los Angeles, you`ll never go hungry. Any number of culinary persuasions can be more than adequately catered for, with restaurants offering traditional American fare, eye-wateringly gargantuan steaks, traditional Spanish, Italian and Japanese dishes and every kind of Fusion imaginable. Service and value for money are wholly subjective but with wall to wall eateries fiercely vying for your patronage, very few proprietors and their staff would dare to gamble their reputation and come up short in the hospitality stakes.
Finding the best restaurant all depends on what`s top of your must have list. Ironically, it`s not always the food. Ambience can be far more crucial. That romantic moment could be spoiled somewhat by a neighbouring head banger getting down to the rock vibe at Swingers on Santa Monica Boulevard or the sound of revving hotrods every Friday night down at Bob`s Big Boy, the only original surviving 1950`s outlet of its kind in Southern California. Perhaps a better option would be head to La Traviata at Long Beach, where lavish décor and a nightly musical accompaniment will set an altogether more appropriate mood.
Of course, if what`s on the plate is key and it`s an al-a-carte or fine dining experience you`re after, Providence on Melrose Avenue offers a wealth of sophisticated seafood options. For the more carnivorous, The Palm Steakhouse on Santa Monica Boulevard is unlikely to disappoint. At Aisa de Cuba on Sunset Boulevard you`ll find stunning views to accompany your sumptuous platter. And if it`s all in the name, spend some time celebrity spotting at The London West Hollywood, where the somewhat ubiquitous but unfailingly consistent Gordon Ramsay can be found. Or at least his name can.
In truth you`re unlikely to unearth too many celestial beings in the City of Angels, but you certainly won`t have to hunt too far for best America can offer in an array of global cuisines. It`s true to say that you could dine somewhere different every day for a month and still only have to walk to the end of the street. That said, it`s well worth considering car hire in Los Angeles, as with over 500 square miles of city to explore, you never know what – or maybe who – you could be missing.
